Frankoma Pottery began in earnest in 1936, started by John Frank an Art and Pottery teacher at the University of Oklahoma. The name Frankoma married John Frank’s name with the last letters in Oklahoma. Wagon Wheel pattern is the signature Frankoma dinnerware line, first introduced in 1942. Frankoma forged the way for colored dinnerware, which until that point had been primarily stoneware. Frankoma closed its operations plant in 2004.
