Original Native American painting  by Linda Lucy Lunde is one in a western art  series of American Indian watercolor portraits. Understated and gorgeous, this Indian maiden is a watercolor, pen & ink etching with metallic copper/gold background and is stunning.  This native American art piece is matted in a beautifully complimentary  shade of eggplant purple  and is  set in a matte finish copper/gold frame.

The Indian maiden is wearing an elk teeth dress, symbolizing the wealth of her family. Only the eye teeth of an elk, known as the ivories were used in garment decoration in the mid-nineteenth century. A dress adorned with many elk teeth spoke volumes about the prowess of the men in the family and their ability to provide for their family and to trade with others. These portraits have  an atypical use of color, light and shadow, although small in scale, each of these beauties are stand alone impressive!

Framed  piece measures: 10"L x 1"W x 10"H

Linda Lucy Lunde studied art at the University of California, Santa Barbara and at Northwest College. Her style was influenced greatly while she apprenticed under western artist, William Herring. This particular series of Native American portraits was no doubt influenced by her ex-husband, Native American artist Kevin Red Star.
