Vintage California art by George Mason of the Mason Manufacturing Co., who produced Monterey furniture. This vintage painting by Mason is a charming scene and features the big eyes of a Native American Indian child peering over the shoulder of its mother. The colors and theme would certainly blend into a room full of Monterey furniture with its warm tones, but this classic piece will enrich any setting. This vintage painting has been layered by Mason, much in the same way his Monterey furniture was, with a rustic warmth. Oil on canvas.

Canvas measures: 24"L x 1"W x 19-3/4"H

George Mason is most well known as a draftsman and painter for the Monterey furniture line started by his father Frank Mason and manufactured by the Mason Manufacturing Co through the 1920s and 30s. The style of Monterey furniture fit the character of the Spanish Revival style homes being built at the time. Many pieces were hand painted after the antiquing and staining process with different colors or floral patterns. Wrought iron straps and pulls provided accent to the pieces, in addition to basic notching that provided some variation. Many of the earlier pieces were marked by a horseshoe brand, visible at the underside of the piece or on the back.
